Frequently asked questions
Are you accessible?
The library is fully accessible to wheelchair users. There is a wheelchair accessible gender neutral toilet. The upstairs of the library is accessed both by stairs and a wheelchair accessible platform lift. We have bright pink signage and stair edge tape to aid visually impaired users, and a large print book collection.
Does it cost money to join the library?
It doesn’t cost anything to join the library. It is free to…
- Join the library
- Take out a book
- Renew a book
- Use a computer*
- Scan a document
*There is a small charge for printing.
Do you accept book donations?
Yes, provided they are in good condition and any non-fiction books contain up-to-date information. If you have a large quantity of books to donate please contact us first to ensure we have the capacity!
I've lost my library book. What should I do?
Please contact Lewisham Libraries directly by visiting one of the four hub libraries, Downham, Deptford, Catford or Lewisham (closed until 2026) or by telephone on 0208 314 9800, or email libraries@lewisham.gov.uk
We cannot accept replacement copies that you have bought yourself.
I need to make a work call. Can I do that in the library?
If you are considerate and don’t disturb other users. Please note that we have no designated quiet areas or rooms (unless you are willing to hire the small office, see here) so if this is something you require our library may not be the best place for you.
How do I apply to volunteer?
Head to your online volunteer form or fill out and return this form either in the library or to info@corbettcommunity.org.uk and someone will be in touch.
Can I bring my dog into the library?
Only service animals are allowed in public libraries as outlined in Lewisham Libraries bylaws.
There are no exceptions made to this rule based on the size of your dog, whether you are carrying your dog, whether your dog is friendly or if you are ‘just popping in to return a book’. You love your dog, other users may not.
I am a private tutor. Can I use the library to teach students?
Yes, although unless you hire a space (see here) we cannot guarantee you a table.
I work in an early years setting. Can we bring children to visit the library?
Yes, but this must be booked in advance to avoid clashes with other groups and classes.
We love having children visit but we need to keep the space safe and welcoming for all our users.
Can I bring food and drink into the library?
Yes, as long as you eat and drink under the dome! There is no food allowed in the children’s library or computer area and no hot drinks by the computers (bottled water is fine, but please be careful not to spill it).
Bikes/E-bikes/E-scooters
Bikes, E-bikes and E-scooters must not be brought into library buildings. They can be locked up outside the buildings at the designated areas.
Charging of E-bikes or E-scooters is not permitted.
