We provide a friendly face to face service, that helps local people access the services and benefits that they are entitled to. We do this by using our knowledge and experience of the systems in play, to overcome the obstacles that frequently prevent or slow down the processes, people are trying to access.
A large part of this concerns the use of computers, email and IT technology.
We are in attendance on Mondays and Thursdays for 1-hour appointments and have walk-in service on Mondays.
This service has been running since early 2017 and we have helped hundreds of local people in this time. The satisfaction level amongst our clients is very high.
Clients can book appointments in person or by phone.
Although we are not an advice service, we try to help provide the tools that enable our clients to make their own well-informed decisions.
The main areas and issues we help with are:- completing online forms, applying for benefits, understanding benefit decisions (especially about HB and CT), challenging or appealing decisions by letter.
Help claiming for concessions such as, Blue Badge Parking, Freedom Passes, Free School Meals, Free Child Care, Taxi Cards etc.
Other frequent issues we help with include applying to join Social Housing Register, Universal Credit. PIP, DLA and attendance allowance.
Housing issues we frequently help with include Impending eviction, “bedroom tax”, obtaining Discretionary Housing Payments, sub-standard or unsafe accommodation. Underpayments of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Tax Credit and other financial entitlements.
